The food is a take on tapas but with a Portuguese influence rather than Spanish. The portions are quite large compared to what you may be used to from their Iberian cousins, and two dishes will easily satisfy one person for a full meal.
The best way to experience Paxia is with an open mind. It is worth trying something you have never heard of to discover something new about Portuguese food. They really do try to celebrate the best of everything Portuguese, so it is worth talking to the waiters about your wine choice. They are knowledgeable, won’t break the bank, and will introduce you to some wines not found on most wine lists. Even by the glass, the variety is great, so you could ask for a wine pairing throughout your meal and enjoy different wines from different regions.
Trendy and fashionable, yet comfortable and delicious. In a region where restaurant selection consists either of fine gastronomy, or traditional chicken and fish, Paixa stands out as a hot spot. Depending on your mood you can bar-prop, sit at a table or go al fresco in the small garden at the front. You don’t have to decide all at once, the chances are you’ll be back very soon in order to try the other dishes that sounded great, but couldn’t fit in this time.
