Top 10 beaches in Majorca

Majorca brings back some of my favourite holiday memories, both as a child and more recently. There's something for every mood, whether you're looking for a softly shelving beach leading into shallow turquoise waters or a picturesque coves with exciting rocks to dive from, I've listed my top beaches (and added links to google maps) for you to save till your next trip.

Cala Mondragó

Tucked away on the island’s eastern coast near Santanyí, Cala Mondragó is a family favourite. Framed by lush pine forests and rocky cliffs, this sheltered bay offers shallow turquoise water and fine white sand-ideal for young swimmers. With many amenities including parking, beach bars and toilets, it has also managed to preserve its natural charm. If it feels too lively in high season, stroll just 400m along the coast to the quieter but equally stunning Cala S’Amarador.

Platja de Alcudia

With its 3km sweep of soft white sand and calm, shallow waters, Platja de Alcudia is the ultimate family-friendly beach. Perfect for sandcastle building and paddling, it’s well-equipped with restaurants, bars, showers, changing rooms and even a playground. Just minutes from the medieval town of Alcudia, this beach combines convenience with natural beauty - rarely feeling crowded thanks to its generous expanse.

Portitxol

Once a humble fishing harbour, Portitxol has transformed into one of Palma’s most desirable seaside spots. Its golden sands and calm waters make it perfect for a sunset swim, followed by dinner at one of the excellent nearby restaurants. Just a 10-minute stroll from the city’s cultural heart, Portitxol blends beachside tranquillity with urban convenience.

Es Trenc

Often described as Mallorca’s “Caribbean,” Es Trenc is the island’s most famous virgin beach, preserved from development and stretching for 10km along the southern coast. Its powdery white sand and luminous turquoise waters are breathtaking, though facilities are minimal—bring your own shade and supplies. Afterwards, stop by the nearby salt flats, where a rustic café and shop add a charming local touch.

Cala Formentor

At the island’s northernmost tip lies Cala Formentor, a narrow beach shaded by pine and oak trees, overlooking calm turquoise waters. Just 10km from Port de Pollença, it’s a tranquil retreat embraced by dramatic mountain scenery. This is a beach for pure escapism: find your shady spot, settle in, and let time drift away.

Cala Varques

Close to Manacor on the east coast, Cala Varques feels wonderfully bohemian. Accessible yet tucked away, it’s a cove where turquoise water laps at pale sand, and barefoot artisans sell handmade jewellery along the shore. With no facilities or loungers, it’s best for those seeking a natural, off-the-grid vibe—bring water, shade, and an adventurous spirit.

Cala Llombards

Near the village of Es Llombards, this secluded cove is surrounded by rugged cliffs and pine groves. Loved by locals, Cala Llombards offers soft white sand, crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkelling, and a calm atmosphere ideal for families. Rarely crowded, it’s a place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Mallorca’s southeast coast.

Cala Mesquida

Designated a protected area of natural interest, Cala Mesquida is a long, sweeping beach surrounded by dunes and pine forests on the northeast coast. Located near Capdepera, its raw natural beauty and wide sands make it a favourite for those seeking a wilder setting without sacrificing accessibility. Widely considered among Mallorca’s top beaches, it’s a must for nature lovers.
