Styled on the architecture typical of Ibiza, here you will find an array of white-washed villas amongst the traditional cobbled streets - a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary design.

Blessed with many hours of sunshine due to its location the weather is perfect for enjoying the secluded beaches and coves the resort has grown up around. With white sand, turquoise waters and pine trees, the beaches really are picturesque. Charming little beaches nestle in coves surrounded by woodland and cliffs with inviting crystal-clear waters – a glorious way to relax.

Cala d'Or itself has five beaches set in coves (known as Calas) - Cala Serena, Cala Esmerelda, Cala Llonga, Cala Ferrera and the longest, at just 40m wide, Cala Gran. Although the coves are petite their enchanted, secluded settings with pine-tree-topped rocky cliffs, turquoise seas and soft golden sand are pure inspiration.

If you’re prepared to venture a little further afield, Mondrago Natural Park is wonderful. Situated in the south, close to Santinyi the park is famous for its white sand beaches and outstanding turquoise blue sea. The two beaches, S'Amarador and Mondrago, are linked by a promenade and there are beach bars at both. This area is protected from development and has a real back-to-nature feel.

For a touch of sophistication make your way to Cala Llonga. The largest of the three main beaches, you'll find a classy marina filled with expensive yachts and sailboats. Here you can sit at a waterfront bar soaking up the cosmopolitan atmosphere, which many do, or don your over-sized sunglasses and hire a boat to sail around this pretty part of the island.

A trip to Es Trenc is well worth a visit. Although it's a bus ride away the natural white beach and turquoise waters stretching far into the distance is a real eye-opener. You could be forgiven for thinking you'd landed in the Caribbean. The shallow waters are ideal for small children.

Cala Esmeralda is a natural cove in the area of Cala D’or, and is said by many to be the prettiest - a definite must-see for beach lovers.

And, Cala d’Or’s yacht marina is definitely worth a visit while you're here. As one of the most glamorous marinas on Mallorca it has certainly contributed to Cala d’Or earning its stylish reputation. You may even spot a celeb or two while you're there.

Aside from the coves and beaches, there are many special villages and towns dotted around the area offering outstanding accommodation and a more relaxed vibe. Visit the beautiful countryside hamlet of S’Horta with its meandering country lanes, the rural hamlet of Es Carritxo with an inner town – Felantix – where you’ll find local shops, restaurants and cafes, and the charming village of Cas Concos, which has attracted a number of artists and now has two art galleries of its own. Then there’s the petite Mallorcan villages of Alqueria Blanca, Calonge with its abundance of almond orchards and Es Llombards - a quiet village located around the cove of Cala Llombards. There’s a small beach and the most beautiful sea water to indulge in.

Finally, a visit to Santanyi is a must-see. An historic town, it has now become a sophisticated place for those who live in the countryside to meet, and there’s plenty of opportunities in the lovely restaurants, bars and cafes that line the main square. Enjoy breakfast in one of the delightful cafes, lunch at a tapas bar or stroll around one of the galleries pre-dinner. Visiting the market on a Saturday morning is advised. One of the nicest markets on the island it is very popular for fruit and veg and locally crafted goods. Then cool off at Beach Cala Santanyi. This gorgeous cliff-lined cove with cobalt waters is great for snorkeling and has shallow waters that are perfect for the children to splash around in.

For something a little different to the beach and village life, Cala d'Or has five 18-hole golf courses along this stretch of coast, or the 5-star Robinson Club Cala Serena tennis club, which has 13 clay courts as well as a floodlit sports bar.
